How Does It Work?
Overseas cutters have very limited machinery, but also very different machinery.
Cabochons, facet stones, and beads are your best bet. Yes, we can make funky styles (aka- freeforms). Everything is hand cut.
You essentially get me the rocks, I review the instructions and packaging, and forward it to my cutters. When it arrives, I am contacting the lapidaries directly. That means I have a direct line to the person on the grinding wheel. Him and I share images, messages and conversations via cell phones. This is why I need to see your rock and instructions first. I am a skilled lapidary, so by inspecting your rock, I will know what the cutter is talking about when he asks questions.
This may cost you a bit more to ship to me (drop off is free), but it is highly worth it for the customer service aspect.
When the cutter receives your rock and instructions, he will begin asap. Shaping, and then polishing. Scraps will be returned unless instructed otherwise.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Note: These are the standard prices, but problem cutting or extra work (such as smaller stones) may increase the price.
Faceting
CDN $1.25/ crt
Cabochons
CDN $1.25/ gram
Bead Making
CDN $.60/crt

The price you pay is for the final yield. Estimate a quarter of your material back in finished weight.
Example, if you send 1000 carats of rough. You will get about 250 crts back.
Your cutting cost is based on that yield (250 crts).
So, if you’re getting faceting done at $1per crt.
Your cutting cost is $250 + all your shipping/ import costs.
As a reference, 1crt is about equal to a small 5mm standard brilliant round.
5crts = 1gram
1000 grams = 1kilo
I list the charges in an attempt to clarify that all the soft costs add up more than most realize.
I offer cost saving options, bundling your order with others to save on overall shipping.
Rush, and no rush options.
CHARGES
Charges occur in the following order:
-
Getting your rocks to me
-
Drop off (free)
-
Shipping (I can receive in USA or Canada, because I live 30 mins from the border)
-
-
Review and Packaging for India (you pay for my time, and packaging materials.
-
If you follow the instructions precisely, you will not need to pay anything for review and packaging.
-
You may think that shipping directly to a cutter you find on another website will save you money, but if it is your first time- it will be far greater an expense than you realize. Stone gets stolen, import charges are beyond rational, stones are cut to create the biggest weight- because that is what is being paid for, and return shipping will be expensive, furthermore broken English will be the means of communication. With me- you're talking to someone who speaks your language, so your instructions get followed more accurately.
-
Shipping fee to India (Starts at approx. CDN $100, with each consecutive kilo being about $30. If you are patient, this can be reduced as I tie your stones in with others and bulk ship.)
-
Import Charges (Duties on rough are less than 1%, but the customs clearance charges are about $20-$50 CDN/ parcel)
-
Cutting fee (Depends on cut style)
-
Return Postage (approx. CDN $30/ kilo. The great thing about this, is that your package is much smaller upon return.)
-
Import & Duties (Canada can tax on any value, USA taxes above $800USD)
-
I can often do this with devalued receipts, or ship to the USA border to save money.

FINAL REVIEW
Take a few photos of the stone you’re sending, as evidence.
Keep copies of your packing slip (shipping form), as well as your cutting instructions.
Send me an email notifying me that you have posted stones to me, and include the above info in the email, as well as the package you are sending me.
Ship to:
-Bonuses are optional once stone is returned. (I keep none of the bonus- it all goes to the cutter as a fair trade incentive).
-I do not use child labour.
-Hand cutting means that a mast is not used in faceting, although the facets will line up well, they will not be perfect. If you have anything better than semi precious- I seriously recommend precision machine cutting- done in Thailand.
